Thanks, Kevin. But, can you say that "lo" can be used in the sentence that I wrote so that I would not have to use "ella" o "el"?

You should have either PM'ed this question to Kevin or placed a link in you question to your previous thread if you were willing to accept answers from anyone. Better yet, you should have just appended this question to your previous thread as it does not involve a new topic.

Lo is not appropriate for your sentence. It cannot function as the subject of the sentence. (He/she is slippery). As Keven mentioned, when the gender is not known the masculine is assumed. In your sentences just use the 3rd person, singular of the verb (es) and don't include a subject pronoun. From the context of the conversation we know that "thief" is the person being referred to. (or use él if you feel it necessary.)
