Winery = Bodega

Winery = Bodega

I will put this here so it can be corrected if I am wrong.

I would like to propose an update to our definitions:

Currently:

Winery: 1. Establecimeinto para hacer vino; cuarto para afinar y conservar el vino, candiotera.

Bodega: 1. wine cellar (cava) 1. wine shop (tienda); bar (taberna) (mainly selling wine) 2. hold (en buque, avión) (mainly selling wine) 3. small grocery store (colmado) (CAm, Carib) (mainly selling wine) 4. store (almacén) (Mexican Spanish) (mainly selling wine)

Per SAE (bodega) : 4. f. Establecimiento, generalmente industrial, para la elaboración de vinos.

I looked at wineries in Chile and Spain and "bodega" does seem to be the correct term.

I live amongst vineyards and wineries, and the distinction is important, especially when one is going wine tasting.

The proposal is to add winery as entry "5." under bodega, and bodega as an additional choice under winery. - Stadt, Oct 13, 2010

Looks like "Viñedo" is another term used in Chile along with "Bodega", but it refers more to the vineyard itself than winery.

That is what I found - Stadt, Oct 13, 2010
Sounds much better than bodega! To me a bodega general term for a store or warehouse. - gabacholoco, Oct 13, 2010
That is why I was looking for some other term, but this really does seem to be what is used- I would have loved "Viñería" but it doesn't seem to be a real word. - Stadt, Oct 13, 2010

Vinatería? Sounds a little classier than bodega, although is usually a store that sells wine and liquor.
