"ista" always bi-gender?
A student asked me "are words that end in "ista" always a for both masculine and feminine? As I think about it that seems right. Anyone have an example that breaks the mold?

That is correct for words coming from other nouns as far as I can tell:
Paracaídas ==> paracaidista
arte ==> artista
estilo ==> estilista
recepción ==> recepcionista
ascensor ==> ascensorista
However, there are other words that are not originated that way, and have a specific gender.
la lista
la pista
la vista
etc.
Not all words. Some of them are simply feminine.
la vista
la lista
la autopista
la pista
la conquista
la revista
