Use of 'sensible'

Can 'es sensible' in Spanish mean 'it is sensible' in English? I always thought it meant 'sensitive', and that 'es sensato' would be the translation for 'it's sensible'?

Hi, Bonnie. Welcome to the forum.

The English word "sensible" would be translated as "sensato," "lógico," "práctico," etc.

1) She's a very sensible girl = Es una chica muy sensata

2) Be sensible! = ¡Sé sensato!

3) It would be sensible to check first = Lo más sensato sería comprobarlo antes

4) Try to be sensible about it = Procura ser razonable

Yes, and "es sensible" would never mean "it is sensible". Like bonnie said, it means "he is sensitive". - bill1111, Oct 13, 2010

And "sensitive" is "sensible" in Spanish Bonnie. It is one of the "false friends"
