Confusion about present progressive

Confusion about present progressive

From another (partly) free online Spanish course I learned that the present progressive is only used for actions that are currently happening and not for things that are about to happen.

Quoting (not sure if I'm allowed to mention the name of a rival's website here):

It is important to remember that you would never use the present progressive to say something like "We are going to Spain this summer." Use present progressive only for actions that are in progress.

This seems to contradict with today's 'word of the day':

¿Vamos andando por el parque? - Should we go through the park on foot?

This is not an action already underway, ya? Could anyone clarify this for me?

Not progresse tense. 'andando' is a participle (gerundio) used as as an adverb to modify the verb 'ir'.

Precisely! That's why I said it is not even a periphrasis. - lazarus1907, Oct 12, 2010

In that sentence there is no present progressive, which is formed with "estar" + "gerundio". That sentence is "ir" + "gerundio", which is a different construction with a different meaning and usage, and in this case, not even a periphrasis.
