"la simple vista"

"la simple vista"

I know this can be "with the naked eye" but I have two examples here where I think it means something different

  1. *A pesar de la complejidad, al poderse establecer con un error despreciable vínculos de causalidad entre redes (es decir, a escala macroscópica), ***no se perderá a simple vista*** (a escala macroscópica) la coherencia del cerebro . I want to translate this as *"we should not lose sight of(the fact) that**

2 En definitiva: gracias a la efectiva estructuración en redes neurales morfofuncionales, la mente a simple vista consigue ser coherente con la realidad macroscópica con un error despreciable

Here I'm translating it as "the mind, put simply.."

Any comments on the uses of this phrase?

Thanks

it is very interesting to work with that, isn´t it? I would still need a little more of text, but a simple vista in this case (1) sounds like ´at first glance" or "at a (single) glance" . or, ´in the whole´

because I read that the discourse comes like ¨despite the complexity.... at first glance....¨

or maybe brain coherence will not be overlooked.

and then in (2) at first glance seems to be the best choice.

Now, by the way, the phrase ¨al poderse establecer con un error despreciable vínculos ¨ it sounds like a mix of bad writing and irritating jargon. I would write ¨ al poder establecerse, con un error insignificante, vínculos¨

despicable mistake does not sound too scientific grin

"error despreciable" doesn't seem appropriate in that context, but I've seen it used countless in engineering and mathematics. And its translation wouldn't be "despicable", but negligible. - bill1111, Oct 11, 2010
oh, I know.I was just playing with the moral burden of those persecuted miscalculations :-) - mediterrunio, Oct 11, 2010
Very good commentary. And yes, of course, the word we want is negligible. Get my vote, Mediteerrunio. - Gekkosan, Oct 11, 2010

Yes I've been toying with "at first glance". For "despreciados" I'm thinking of going with "negligible".

And you're right, the text is bristling with unhelpful jargon, on the whole a bad indicator for potential intellectual quality. Thanks for your input. I'll wrestle with it a bit more.

negligible is perfect! good forBillstpor - mediterrunio, Oct 11, 2010
If you think that has a lot of bad jargon I have a truckload of engineering tomes that would make a grown man cry :) - bill1111, Oct 11, 2010
