However, if you use listo or lista with the verb "ser", the meaning changes completely, so be careful.

Neither. It is estás listo if you are addressing of a male and estás lista if you are addressing a female. Of course, if you are asking a question it is ¿Estás list@?

But with an "a" instead of the "@" :-) - KevinB, Oct 9, 2010
It depends of whom we are asking the question to. The @ is short for "a" or "o". - 0074b507, Oct 9, 2010
Ah! Never mind, Makes sense now, - KevinB, Oct 9, 2010
Wow that is interesting! I never realized that you could use the @ in such a flexible manner :) - FELIZ77, Oct 9, 2010
Is @ RAE approved, though? It sure would save a lot of time with this gender nonsense. - KevinB, Oct 9, 2010
Please explain the @ I have never seen this before - is this a wind-up? - caza, Oct 10, 2010

Welcome to the forum. It depends on whom you are talking to. Listo is masculine, use it when talking to a male. Lista is feminine, use it when talking to a female.
