Hello, I have 5 questions in spanish that need answered. I've done my best to answer them in spanish, however i need corrections for my spanish answers. I've written in correct english what i'm trying to say in spanish.

  1. ¿Quién habla en este poema? Pablo Neruda is speaking in the poem. Pablo Neruda está hablando en este poema.

  2. ¿De quién habla el poeta? He speaks about his ex girlfriend. El habla sobre su ex novia.

  3. ¿Cuál es el tema del poema? Love is the theme of the poem. El tema de la poema es amor.

  4. ¿Qué momento del día es? Its at night. Está la noche.

  5. ¿Cómo se siente el poeta? Da (give) un ejemplo del poema. The poet feels horrible about the breakup with his girlfriend. An example would be, me and my girlfriend grow apart over time. El poeta se siente horrible sobre la ruptura con su novia. un ejemplo, mi y mi novia crecen aparte el tiempo.

thankyou.

You did a great job on these sentences. Here are a few suggestions:

Pablo Neruda está hablando en este poema.

Good.

El habla sobre su ex novia.

No need for "Ël" here.

El tema de la poema es amor.

It's "el" poema.

Está la noche.

I would say "Es por la noche."

El poeta se siente horrible sobre la ruptura con su novia. un ejemplo, mi y mi novia crecen aparte el tiempo.

El poeta se siente horrible porque se rompió con su novia.

(sorry, but I don't know the term for "grow apart" in Spanish.)

Some explanations of the corrections.

2nd question

I would say: Él habla de... (nothing wrong with sobre, but take your cue from the questions asked...¿De quién habla....?)

You could use the same reasoning for sentence #1 of which some people have questioned your answer...¿Quién habla....? use the same verb construction in the answer....XXXX habla.....(not está hablando)

Está la noche is incorrect, because Ser is use with times of day. Es la una de la tarde. Por is used rather than de when the specific hour of the day is not mentioned..

poema is one of the many words ending in "ma" that are masculine in gender.

Awesome sentence, great alternative, thankyou! - rcmango, Oct 9, 2010
No problem. Sometimes you can't translate so literally you have to capture the mood. Just like english there are lots of ways to same the same thing. - gabacholoco, Oct 9, 2010

Maybe it's just me, but I definitely would not say "está hablando" here. . .he has already spoken and he's not speaking now.

Agreed. I'd probably just say "habla". - KevinB, Oct 9, 2010
