regarding the telephone, can someone please tell me what "tecle gato(a)" means?

Welcome to the forum. It means "press the pound key".
La tecla gato = the pound key
Tecle gato = press pound

I think what you might be referring to would be "Te colgó." He or she hung up on you. Usually used to reference someone hanging the phone up on you. I think it may even be a form of slang.
