I have seen it often as "anterior alcalde"
If you do a google news search these are the results you will find:
anterior alcalde about 117 hits
antiguo alcalde about 13 hits
alcalde anterior about 11 hits
alcalde antiguo 0 hits

"anterior alcalde" or "antiguo alcalde" are both fine, as long as the adjective is put before "alcalde". However "anterior" means "the previous one", whereas "antiguo" simply means former. - bill1111, Oct 6, 2010

ex- something doesn't imply that it was the previous one, there could have been 3 other mayors in between him and the current one. Also "alcalde antiguo" is a big no-no :) - bill1111, Oct 6, 2010
