An alternative ending to "El encaje roto"
There is a short story by Emilia Pardo Bazán called "El encaje roto". This story is based in "el naturalismo" It is the story about a wedding that did not take place. The groom gave the bride an old piece of lace that came from his family. As she is about to walk down the isle, the lace gets caught in the door and rips....he displays a very angry face. This face causes her to say no at the altar.
The basic meaning of the story, to my understanding, is her reaction to his angry face. At this moment, she realizes that he will always be this man with an angry face because human nature is what it is and people do not change. (I am not saying I believe this; this is what "el naturalismo" is about)
My assignment is to come up with an alternative ending. Do they marry? Why? Does she react to something else? Why?
I am not looking for answers to my homework. I am just trying to brainstorm. Have you read the story? Any ideas? Thanks!! If not, this is a fun assignment for students of all stages ![]()

I read now, it is a great history. I love Emilia ( i read "Los pazos de Ulloa"), but it is hard to read if you not have a very good level of spanish.
