acudir= to go?? how to use it?

Hi,

can you please give some examples how to use the Spanish word "acudir" . Is it the same as "ir" or "venir" ??

Poca gente acudió (preterite tense) para votar en las elecciones.

Not many people turned up to vote in the elections.

To 'turn up' to or 'attend' an event, or to a place, is a meaning I saw frequently in the novel I just finished reading.

"Todos los fines de semana acuden un montón de personas a ver el show"

"No acudiría a ti si no fuese por un motivo importante"

"Finalmente el talento individual acudió al rescate del equipo, cuando estaba ya abocado a la derrota"

It depends on where you are.

Acudió en mi auxilio. (He came to my aid)

Acudió en tu auxilio. (He went to your aid)
