When to use "de" with Olvidar

Is there a set rule, or is it just by context?

For example, if I were to say, "I can forget about my problems," would I use de?

Thanks! =)

I dunno if there are any rules... I would simply say... Me puedo olvidar de mis problemas

Wait... there are rules for reflexive verbs... and olvidar is transitive if not in the reflexive form of olvidarse... I used it it reflexive form - jeanpm, Oct 3, 2010
You can use it that way, it's pronomial and I believe the pronomial usage has a stronger connotation. - jeezzle, Oct 3, 2010
Yes... It's hard to explain... I can't think of any other way to say it, because of the context in which the sentence may be presented - jeanpm, Oct 3, 2010

I could be wrong, but in the sense you speak of "de" would be about. I think you can use it with or without about depending on context.
