I am a Spanish AP teacher and I am looking for a meaning a word in a reading. The Spanish word is "destechados". I think I understand the meaning of the word from the context it's in. It is an article about homeless people and I want to make sure that this is what the word actually means.

Techo means roof. Destechado would mean "unroofed" or homeless as you surmised. In English we have the expression "without a roof over their heads".
