The Spanairds "discovered" the Americas. It was easier to teach the natives to speak spanish than to learn the native languages.

If you read history books about this subject you will find mostly the spaniard version of the history. When you start to investigate more deeply you wil find that the natives learn spanish by force. They were tortured, killed just to mention some brutal methods the spaniards used.
Speaking of history today October 2nd is the anniversary of the Tlatelolco massare at the Plaza de Tres Culturas. The three cultures are the aztecs, the mexicans and the spanish. The Spaniards dismantled most of the Aztec pyramids of Tlateloco and built the Templo de Santiago on the ruins as well as many other churches and gardens as show of dominance. Today there are still a few of the Aztec pyramids left in the area and it is a big tourist destination.
The students and faculty held a strike at Tlatelolco to point out the poverty of the inhabitants despite two suceeding revolutionary type governments. The Olympics were to be held in the city soon and the President sent in his personal guard to clear the city for the upcoming celebrations.
The forum question kind of put a new light on situation in my mind. Why were the three cultures comemorated at this place? Why was the government trying to host the Olympics there and why did the students revolt? The whole event has been surpressed by the government.
