posssessive pronouns

Question

Are you suppose to use possessive pronouns for body parts or not? Everything that I have studied tells me no, but when I asked a women that teaches spanish in Spain, she told me that you are suppose to use them. So why do all the materials say not to use possessive pronouns when speaking of body parts?????

I was taught not to, unless it was needed to clarify or emphasize something. Everything I see and hear generally does not use posessive pronouns with body parts.

They are used for clarification if ambiguity exists or for emphasis just like subject pronouns are. And if you are familiar with subject pronouns they are included or excluded rather randomly. I wouldn't be confused if you see possessive adjectives used with body parts, but the preference is to not use them.

I would be surprised to see long form possessive adjectives used with them, however.

(and it is body parts, articles of clothing and personal items that fall into this context).
