Buenas noches todos..

Can the word "rendezvous" be translated?

Cita, encontrarse and reunirse - don´t have the same effect...

Muchas gracias.xx

Sorry Helen but the word rendezvous is not limited to a meeting of lovers. I suppose there may be a romantic way to say it to a Spanish man with that intent and you will need a Spanish native to answer that but my guess is it would probably just require some body language along with the question.

When I think of the work 'rendezvous', I think of a romantic meeting with a member of the opposite sex. I would never say to a plutonic co-worker, "let's rendezvous at the water fountain." The word has the connotion of a secret meeting (with member of the opposite sex). Another word for 'rendezvous' would the 'tryst'. I agree with Helen that the Spanish translations do not produce the same nuance.

I don't see anything romantic about a military rendezvous:) - Yeser007, Oct 1, 2010
You make a fair point Yesero. But I'm standing behind my original statement - military lingo aside - lkelly, Oct 1, 2010

I would ask, does Rendezvous translate any better into English? It may be called an English word, but really, it's an untranslated import, like "etc." What foreign words does Spanish accept?
