To Rope? (as a verb)

Question

A friend of mine is asking how she can express the word "to rope" as in, using a lasso to capture/snare something.

I found Lacear in the dictionary here, but my Mexican wife has never heard of that word, so I'm not sure how accurate it is.

Anyone have a good way to say that?
