General strike in Spain today! Workers strike to hold on to long time benefits! Is this the begining of a world wide reduction in workers benefits?

It is certainly the beginning of a Europe-wide reduction in worker benefits. Benefits have sky-rocketed, the population is aging, and more people are retiring without younger workers taking their place to continue putting money in to shore up the system.

I hope that you have no reason. - cogumela, Sep 29, 2010
I'm afraid I have to agree with that. The Spanish labor market has been stagnant for a while, and it seems like the whole system is in jeopardy unless we take drastic measures right now. Of course these measures are going to meet with a lot of rejection. - bill1111, Sep 29, 2010
Not just Spain. Look at Portugal, Greece, Irelend, Italy, and to some extent France. - KevinB, Sep 29, 2010
