Which sentence structure is more common for Latin American Spanish:

To say "I was reading"

Estaba leyendo o leía

To say "I was going to the park"

Era yendo al parque o Iba al parque

In the lessons I've been studying I have heard both phrases but I am not sure which is more commonly used in Latin American countries.

Thanks for your help! smile

I can't speak about the matter of your question, since I'm from Spain, but "era yendo" is incorrect, it should be "estaba yendo". - bill1111, Sep 27, 2010

Estaba leyendo.,Yo leia. Estaba yendo al parque. Iba al parque. Both ways are correct.

These types of sentences are the same in all Spanish speaking countries, but there is a mistake: it should be "Estaba yendo al parque."

Now, which one is more used... in what context? They are used to express different scenarios; they are not equivalent.
