"La Colaboracion Bancaria "

I've translated this as "The Banking Alliance". Any advice from accounting types? I'm also toying with the simple "Banking Collaboration" but I feel suspicious of it. Is there a generally used term in banking in English?

Thanks

¡Hola!, Birdland:

Well, I read your comments and I dont think I can give you the reply you are looking for.

In Canada, we tend to have two types of deposit taking institutions. The one, and most popular, is the chartered banks who are profit oriented corporations owned by their shareholders and governed by a board of directors in a classic corporate form of organization. The shareholders of chartered banks share in the profits of their banks by way of dividends declared and and made payable to the shareholders.

The other less popular but well used kind of institution is the credit union. Within our province of Quebec, these are called "caisses populaires" (popular banks) but I am lead to believe they are the same as our credit unions. I expect you are familiar (in Scotland) with the credit union concept in which the depositors are members and share in any profits of the credit union. The members share is distributed to them by way of a cooperative dividend declared and paid or credited to their account with their credit union.

I am not familiar with the concept of "cajas de ahorras" (savings banks). If they exist in my country, I do not know of them.

It seems to me that whether dealing with a Chartered Bank or a Credit Union/Caisse Populaire that either of these institutions would call upon an accredited foreign banking organization for any foreign currency transactions or transfers of funds. In order to do that, they need to maintain a reputable "Foreign Banking Liaison" with the offshore (out of Canada) banking entity.

For me, "Foreign Banking Liaison" is as close as I can come to a translation of the term "La Colaboracion Bancaria " you are enquiring about. But, keep in mind that I do not suggest that this term has any authoritative or commercial support. It is just that I thought Liaison would be a better word here than Collaboration.

I'm sorry I could not be more help to you and give you an absolute answer.

Muchos saludos/Best regards,

Moe

The cajas de ahorros are using an international bank to give them access to services they would otherwise be unable to offer. In this way they can extend themselves into international banking particularly in eastern europe.

¡Hola!, Birdland:

What are the activities, indicators, purposes or functions of "La Colaboracion Bancaria "; If you can tell what it consists of or prehaps put the term into some context, it might help us to see some English language equivalent for it.

On the other hand, it may not help at all.

Muchos saludos/Best regards,
