Whoops, I think you corrected yourself "incorrectly"..you do not mean to be daring yourself, do you? ..but rather someone else, maybe lots of people. For one person (formal), you could say: "Atrévese" or using the "tú" form: "Atrévete!" - Janice, Sep 25, 2010

Atreverse es perder tu equilibrio momentáneamente. A no atreverse es para perderse.

Here is a quote from La sombra del viento, the book from which I recently learned this vocabulary word. You can find the sentence on page 193 of Vintage Español (una division de Random House, Inc.) edition.

Ascendí lentamente, casi temiendo que la finca se derribaría si me atrevía a pisar firme sobre aquellos peldaños diminutos, de casa de muñecas.

You can imagine that I had to look up more than just atreverse from that sentence! Maybe I can use it a second time when one of the other words comes up as the word-of-the-day.
