Differences between Estoy and Soy

Question

I'm a beginner in spanish here, so sorry if theres any mistakes in my grammar or vocabulary.

I was just wondering under what circumstances do you use Estoy and Soy. I've finished learning 1.1 and 1.2 and so far both of them mean 'I am'. Which one do I use?
