Sorry, but I can't think of ever using the sentence, "It is important to keep carefree after you retire." It would be common to say, "It is important that you keep active after you retire."

I would say to stay carefree and as you say it is important to busy by way of hobbies such as learning a language etc. - kenwilliams, Sep 23, 2010

carefree is most often used to convey the idea of having no worries or responsibilities. It just wouldn't be used the way you tried to use it. - Echoline, Sep 23, 2010

It's important to stay carefree after you retire is right, It is important that you keep active after you retire is saying something completely different. Carefree = free from worries, easygoing. Keep active = keep busy. That is not carefree. Gracias.
