It will open up the world to you.

It will help you to understand another culture, the way another group of people thinks, laughs and loves.

It will help you to communicate with people who otherwise would be cut off from you.

And, it will help you understand your mother tongue at a deeper level, especially learning those Latin based words (the $3 ones that we don't use all of the time).

Does that actually happen though?? I mean, save for the jobs that have a direct application with it, would say knowing 2 languages really help you out when going for a computer job or something? Would knowing spanish really set you apart from all the other candidates?? I dunno..

I almost feel like it's just something that 'everybody' knows, that being bilingual gets more easier job hunts and better pay..does it REALLY??

Any personal experiences??

For me, I learned it not only because I LOVE it, but also because in the jobs I had in mind, even if not a requirement, there were direct applications for it in the job.

We can give you all the reasons why but you need to decide why you want to study Spanish. "You can lead a horse to water but you can't make them drink". We can tell you why we study the language but unless you want to study Spanish then it's pointless to do so. wink

By learning Spanish, one learns how Spanish speakers think. They think quite differently from English speakers because the sentence structure of each language is different.

You have to find the motivation yourself. Personally, I enjoy it and I have had the oportunity to speak with people around the world even if by e-mail.

Just to help you ..Good English would not include starting a sentence with because (Although I am aware that moern day publishers allow starting sentences with 'And' and 'But ) - FELIZ77, Sep 23, 2010
I mean modern day (sorry, typo) - FELIZ77, Sep 23, 2010
