"auxiliar" versus "ayudar"

Question

Quisiera entender cuando se usaria el verbo"auxiliar" y cuando seria mejor el verbo "ayudar." Por favor de no responderme que son iguales. Me interesan las diferencias sutiles. Gracias, Constancia Rosa

Auxiliar se utiliza con más frecuencia cuando alguien requiere ayuda urgente o se trata de algo absolutamente necesario. Generalmente es sinónimo de socorrer, que es ayudar a alguien que está en peligro o en una situación muy desesperada. Como verbo se usa muchísimo menos que "ayudar".

Por ejemplo, uno no diría "auxíliame con mi tarea de clase".

My husband says that "auxiliar" is used in more "SOS" situations.

I don't think it is a subtle distinction that auxiliary usually means supporting, complementary, or reserve help or assistance while ayudar does not have that restriction. Therefore, contexts like an auxiliary (helper) verb would use use that term over ayudar.

Auxiliar, adjetivo: ayudante, asistente, cooperador, coadyuvante-cuando no se trata de personas-

Auxiliar, transitivo ; secundar,apoyar, socorrer, favorecer, amparar, echar una mano, arrimar un hombro.

auxilio, masculino; apoyo, favor, protección, amparo, refugio, socorro, escudo, asistencia. Asistencia significa normalmente ayuda; pero por eufemismo puede equivaler a socorro.....

es decir puedes usar Ayuda para masculino pero Socorro como femenino.

Javier me ayuda/asiste con el enfermo. Maria me socorre con el enfermo.
