Before Nero popularised the famous "burn a CD/DVD" (like the emperor Nero did with Rome), we used to say "grabar un CD" (to write a CD), but nowadays "tostar/quemar un CD/DVD" have also become somewhat popular. In technical manuals, however, "grabar" is probably still the preferred option (in Spain, that is.)

Interesting. I have never used "grabar un CD", only "grabar un casete". Los CD's siempre los he quemado. :-) - Gekkosan, Sep 22, 2010
Tostar? Cool. - KevinB, Sep 22, 2010

Definitely "quemar". Never heard "tostar". That must be regional.

In the old days, when talking about magnetic tape, we would say "grabar", but since the invention of the CD, it's been "quemar".

comments - Comments are for adding quick remarks to a post. There, we're in agreement. :-) I think "tostar" is used mostly by those who have become familiar with the popular CD/DVD burning software "Toast", from Nero - as referred by Lazarus. - Gekkosan, Sep 22, 2010
