What made you begin speaking Spanish?
I started doing Spanish in 7th grade.. I left highschool in 10th grade and began homeschooling. I decided that I wanted to continue with Spanish and I bought Rosetta Stone. I found this site last week, and I LOVE it! The lessons are really helpful. I just am interested in what made you want to learn spanish?

I was a Compliance Officer (person who makes sure that there is no fraud or abuse on either the medical side or on the financial side of the hospital) for a hospital that had a high number of Spanish-speaking patients. The hospital offered a tutor for any of the administrators who wanted to learn Spanish, so I thought it was a great idea. I began to fall in love with the language and then life got interupted when I sustained a severe brain injury and had to start learning things all over again.
So now I'm in my 2.0 version, and I'm bound and determined to learn Spanish. I've been here only since July, and I would not be exaggerating if I said that SD was the best thing to have happened to me this year!

I began to study, about a year ago, because I like to break down barriers between people.
If I had to live over again, I would probably become a linguist, and learn 8 or 9 languages, so that I could communicate with most of the people on the earth.
My choices would be english, spanish, french, german, american sign language, russian, chinese/mandarin, Hindi, arabic and perhaps farsi and japanese.
i didn't consciously choose spanish. i studied latin in high school and college. i thought that if i ever was going to learn a (spoken) language, it would be french. then i impulsively visited a relative who was working in nicaragua, and i spent three months in culture and language shock-- i had never been out of the us! i was living with a family that didnt speak english, and i suppose my spanish language center kicked in out of pure survival instinct. i have been travelling and speaking and learning and living and loving and working and playing in spanish ever since 
I moved to a Spanish speaking country, so I started studying Spanish about 5 months before I left.
It was one of things that has been on my to do list for years. I recently broke my ankle and had a lot of extra time on my hands. I found SD and started the lessons and I love it. I hope to make some Spanish speaking friends in this country and in others. It is my hope that one day when I can read, write and speak Spanish that I will be able to help others.
My husband took a job in Spain in December, so I quit mine and followed him.
I'm learning the language, the culture and the city as I have intensive language classes every day. Spanishdict.com is my "fun" learning time after my homework is done. Also, the grammar explanations are good for when I don't understand the explanations from class that are all in Spanish.
I am having trouble putting complete sentences together correctly. Consequently, my daily attempts at captions for Picture of the Day and sentences for Palabra del Dia are my way at chipping away at this block.
I really appreciate the supportive environment on this website.

I started studying it as a freshman in high school because I thought it would be cool. I was right. I also lived in Venezuela the last two years of high school, and now I live in Southern California and have Spanish speaking workers at my ranch, so it has also come in very handy.
Quiero a proclamar el evangelio de Jesús Cristo a los Peruanos. I also bought Rosetta Stone and love it, but this sight is better for learning grammer so I use both.
I started learning spanish in elementary school since my school was a charter school, so when i got on to middle school i just decided to keep up the work on it, i was able to go to high school spanish in 7th grade since i learned a lot in elementary haha 
That was fun.
1) My gran once told me she thought we had Spanish blood in the family..
2) I love playing classical guitar tunes written a long time ago by Spanish composers and teachers (Fernando Sor, Dionisio Aguado spring to mind)
3) I watched 'Volver' and adored the sound of the language.
4) I started to watch more films in Spanish
5) I met my friend's husband who is from Ecuador
6) I find language fascinating, but I absolutely adore hearing the sounds of spoken Spanish, and reading it is a very different experience from reading English.
Once I started I became determined in a way I've never been with other languages.
I took Spanish for a few years in high school, and although I liked it, I didn't continue it after that.
My nephew is now a Spanish linguist for the US Marines, and his wife is a native Spanish speaker from Mexico, so I thought it would be fun to learn it "properly" once and for all! Also my husband's twin brother is married to a native Spanish speaker from Nicaragua.
I had on my "to do" list to learn a language when I retired. But, I lost my job, and forgot about that list for a while. I started to have trouble concentrating and remembering things. One day, I came upon a French learning web site, but it did not work very well. I discovered the abundance of Spanish learning places on the web. Spanish was just what I needed to sharpen my mind. My memory started to improve right away. When I discovered this website, I knew I had found the right place. Thank you SD for being here.
And if you need any more reasons, it makes sense to study Spanish. It is most popular language after Mandarin Chinese and English. Almost 500 million people speak it, including 40 million Hispanics in the United States.
I think everyone should study Spanish.
I got A lot off Hispanic Friend. and its no fun not knowing whats going on in the conversation.
Plus, My main man is from Puerto Rico and he lives there. He always comes to visit me in Atlanta, GA. He buys me tickets to go there all the time. Yet I never go because I lack confidences in my Spanish
I can list a myriad of reasons including the need to reconnect to a long lost love , but all the earlier reasons have been left behind since joining SD in February . My main motivation now is being totally in love with the language I have a need to succeed and not to be left in the reject basket on Sd , which incidentally has been one of the best things i have done since retiring from full time stupidity in the business world , I much prefer part time idiocy on Sd trying to outwit Heidi and writing at least one sentence of five words which are correct , but i just love it all and adore the people every one of them. And if that is not a good enough reason to study Spanish , well I don't know another and do not need to.
I didn't really choose it on purpose, when I started highschool, I had to choose between spanish, japanese, maori and art. Basically, I didn't want to take japanese, maori or art but then I found out that I'm actually good at it, now I'm crazy about it!!
