Hiatus as in Gap or Pause

Question

Could the Spanish translation "hiato" be used as in the gap of a treatment procedure. Or would you use another noun such as "descanso".

Había un hiato del tratamiento de dos semanas.

Había un descanso del tratamiento de dos semanas.

Para un tratamiento es mucho más habitual oír descanso, o pausa.

2. Linguistics A slight pause that occurs when two immediately adjacent vowels in consecutive syllables are pronounced, as in reality and naive.
