Each kind of hot pepper has its peculiarities, in terms of heat and flavor. Whether you want to substitute other pepper has to do with just how hot is the dish you are preparing, and how much you mind or not being able to reproduce the exact flavor.
Just don't pour a few drops of Tabasco expecting to have a similar effect!!
