Caké vs pastel

Question

The Spanish people I know say Caké and not pastel, coflakes is cereal, and guajolote = turkey. I go by, "when in Rome do as the Romans do"

I found cake hard to find in the small grocery stores in Mexico. Chocolate was the only flavor. Are cakes not too popular in Mexico?

Spanish People do not say those words...I'm saying this because I'm Spanish (from Spain) and we do not use them. So "When in Rome do as teh Romans" will be nice if you started to learn the difference between a Language and a nationality.Thanks! - marilo63, Sep 17, 2010

I suggest that new Spanish barbarism to be translated into English as pastel /´pas-tel/.

And for cornflakes, cuernosflacos /´kwerns ´fla- kes/

You´ll find English has made its way into Spanish, my rule is go with the Spanish equivalent when they exists and there are plenty of words for cake like torta and bizcocho.
