Welcome to the forum. By switch I assume you mean changing from rojo to roja, for example. In Spanish nouns have gender, they can be either masculine or feminine. Most nouns that end in the letter O are masculine. and most that end in A are feminine. The gender of a noun never changes. The adjectives that describe the noun also have gender, and their gender must change to match the noun. To oversimplify to the point of being incorrect, nouns that end in O need an adjective that ends in O, and nouns that end in A need an adjective that ends in A.

El carro rojo - the red car (no accent over the E, by the way)
La camisa roja - The red shirt

In Spanish, adjectives and nouns must agree in gender and number, so that is what you have to keep in mind to ´switch´ word endings.

In your example:

el carro (masc), then es rojo (masc).
