Is there any point to getting the badges on this site?
Is there any point to getting the badges on this site? I'm trying to find some incentive to try get them. Perhaps even some kind of achievement ranking compared to others?

Think of this as a classroom (!) and the badges as little gold stars.
Not much you can do with them, not even trade them with your buddies. Sorry.

unfortunately the computer compares your scores with every one on the site and that includes hundreds and hundreds of folk that registered, asked one question, and deserted.
If you click on your learning points, for example, I think it says you are at a 93 percentile.
None at all except that some earn you reputation points, There is an incentive for getting reputation points (right to edit, less advertising, etc.), but badges are mostly only meaningful as self-challenges. They are similar to the points in the lessons. They have no meaning at all. If you don't earn the 750 pts. necessary to get credit for the lesson, you can still proceed. They are there entirely for self-evaluation. Let me qualify that remark. If you do all of the lessons in a series there might be some badge or reputation points earned, but an insignificant amount.
Like LTD says, they are just gold stars. An "Attaboy!"
I don't think badges have any influence on what you can or cannot do on this site. However, reputation points do
YOu see less adds, you can edit everybody's threads, you can write reference articles, you can become an admin
I guess it is what you make of it. For me it keeps me active in the forums and stretches me to continue to think about how to speak Spanish.
