Hi Paula,

QFreed gave you an excellent article about the various other languages spoken in Spain besides the language you and I know as "Spanish". Good paper.

You may want that, or you may be more interested in variations of the Spanish language within Spain. The answer is that the Spanish language is fairly uniform throughout Spain, but the accent can be drastically different from one region to the next.

So if you are reading, you won't notice much of a difference at all, but if you are speaking with two people, one from Barcelona and one from Madrid, you may notice a huge difference in their accent.

Of course, the same could be said when talking with someone from New York and another from New Orleans. smile
