Well, let's compare these two sentence in English and see if you still wonder about the uses of article in a language.
I have a big dog who wears a blue collar when he's at the park.
I have big dog who wears blue collar when he's at park.
Would you rather speak like sentence number one or is it okay to sound like sentence number two? Yes, you'd most certainly be understood but do you really want to speak a language like that?
Yes, the above reasons are both correct but I would like to add that articles can be specific: eg 'the' or general:eg 'a' and so, when specific, can add clarity to the meaning of the sentence.
A dog with a blue collar was running in a park
= Un perro con un collar azul estaba corriendo en un parque.
This could be any dog running in any park 'a' is a non-specific word and does not refer to a particular dog or park. There could have been twenty dogs all with blue collars running in the park at the same time....
but, 'The' Dog with 'the feathery tail ' was running in 'the park' = **El perro con la cola como pluma estaba corriendo en el parque
... is specifying a particular dog which had a feathery tail. It is like an identifying tag that helps you distinguish one person, animal or object from another The park, if not mentioned specifically here by name could have already been mentioned in the question,**
Is the dog with the blue collar running in Hyde Park? Yes the dog with the blue collar is running in the/this park
If you simply say, like children and non-natives learning a language,
"Dog with blue collar running in park" this would convey the minimum of information, and while it would be understood, does not sound good in any language so the articles are important as they communicate meaning and the sentence sounds grammatically more correct with them than without them.
I hope this helps ![]()
Hello Polyana and welcome to the forum. You use the articles because it is good grammar, just like using proper capitalization. Please remember to use them both here.![]()
It's so important to use articles in speech. Since I'm still learning, I get so frustrated when fluent spanish speakers don't speak proper, or don't finish sentences because they can be understood by other fluent people, but I just get so lost in trying to comprehend.
