"Yo". How is this pronounced?

Question

When listening to the audio for "Yo", I am hearing 'Jo' instead of 'Yo'. The written material indicates there is no J sound present. It's okay to let me know if I'm losing my hearing. (oh dear gawd!)

You're not hearing things. "Yo" is often pronounced "jo". It's like 'll'. You'll hear it be pronounced like "ll" or "j". Sometimes, though, "ll" is pronounced like "z". Anyway, just be aware of the difference. "Yo" can be pronounced "yo" or "jo". No harm done.

Hi,

"Yo" is pronounced exactly as you'd expect from the Spanish spelling rules (acknowledging regional variations, of course), which are nearly 100% regular, but quite different from the English ones. In English it could take years to a genius to be able to claim that he/she can read all words perfectly, whereas in Spanish, some smart guys can learn how to read perfectly within minutes.

My advice: learn how to read Spanish properly. It is not difficult, and it will be a very powerful tool to learn the language.
