I have heard that there are no words that begin with the letter W in spanish, only words that are taken from other languages, is this true?

True? I wonder why people wonder why the universe does not follow the American model. The letter W was apparently a Germanic invention (probably Anglo-Saxon) that took many centuries before it was adopted in other languages. The first appearances of this letter in Spanish are nearly a millennium old, and the original recommendations about its use mention only Gothic words (Gothic is an extinct Germanic language). All other letters (except K) existed many centuries before in Latin.

Any language with words in W is either Germanic, it has copied English down to its foundations, or it has found English spelling a model worth following.

All -I repeat: ALL- Spanish words in Spanish are from Germanic origin (mostly from English).

I think that is a fair statement.

Words like wáter (lavatory, toilet) could probably be called Spanish words but they come directly from foreign words (Br. Engl. water closet) in this case.
