I'll explain the main difference between "por" y "para" with a couple of examples:

  • Hago esto POR tí (you're doing something because of someone)
  • Hago esto PARA tí (you're doing something for someone)

In the first case, the person in question is the reason why you're doing the action. In the second one, you're doing the action so that the person can have "something"
