What is the reason why people learn Spanish?

why do people learn Spanish so slow in class when they can easily just learn faster off a tape

I want to learn it to speak to the ladies on vacation . Although, learning multiple languages is just good for business internationally

Like CTKnoll said, it's nice to be able to ask questions.

As well as that it's important to have someone who can correct your mistakes and other students who you can talk to in Spanish.

If it's a class where the teacher talks and talks and the students say nothing or almost nothing in Spanish then I agree with you; it's a complete and utter waste of time.

I have to for school (3 years Foriegn Language to graduate). But i feel having a human there to answer questions makes the learning process easier, if slower.
