I have a software program that has Latin.

Question

I checked it out and I thought it would be Spanish from Latin America, but I don't recogonize any of it. Does anyone know where this language is from if not Latin America???

I think it's sad that you didn't know what Latin was. No offense, samfisher. I blame our education system and it's lack of emphasis on the value of learning foreign languages.

I studied Latin for 3 three years in High School and it actually improved my Spanish.

My daughters' high school offered Latin, which is rare nowadays. They had a really hard time getting anyone to take it. When the Latin teacher retired they dropped the class. - KevinB, Sep 8, 2010

I don't think kids should be taught dead languages as it's physically painful and boring for them! Adults who choose it enjoy it and learn it literally 100 times faster for that reason. - rabbitwho, Sep 9, 2010

I agree. Studying Latin grammar will improve your English and Spanish grammar, but so will studying English and Spanish grammar, and they're more useful. - KevinB, Sep 9, 2010

Latin is actually a dead language from which all the Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish, etc) developed over time. And yes, it was spoken in Rome.
