ok so what my question is, is that if you are trying to change a word to imperfect or preterit, can you or do you change a noun like dolar to a imperfect or do you just leave it like that?

"Dólar" is a noun meaning "dollar". As such it is not conjugated.

"Dolar" is also a verb, meaning "to smooth" or "to plane" (as in wood). This verb is conjugated. It is regular, stem changing verb.

dolar (the verb) has no tilde according to R A E. Our dictionary lists the verb under dólar=dollar, but spells it without the tilde for the verb. - 0074b507, Sep 8, 2010
I'm going to ask Paralee is they can correct that dictionary entry. - 0074b507, Sep 8, 2010

Only verbs have tenses. Nouns only change by singular or plural, but then there's adjectives to further 'describe' a noun.

I had to check to see if dólar was conugated as a verb as our dictionary often does with words ending in ar, er, ir. - 0074b507, Sep 7, 2010
