Yo estoy "en falta"

Yo estoy "en falta"

No sé lo que significa "en falta" en esta frase. "Yo estoy en falta, pero no me falta cuarto." Creo que dice = I am (missing something?) but not missing a room? I really don't get it. Gracias. En serio no lo comprendo pero Gracias de costumbre.

I just saw a Shakespeare play and this sounds like some kind of weird Shakespearean pun... I am at fault but I don't lack a room. Weird. (Not good Spanish the second part!) - margaretbl, Sep 6, 2010

Could the first part be - 'I'm at fault' rather than 'I'm missing something'?

Do you have context? "Cuarto" can mean "lodging" or "cash/money". "Falta" can mean lack. So your sentence could read...

"I am lacking, but I don't lack lodging/cash...."

It depends greatly on the context.

"Yo estoy en falta", in this sentence means I'm missing (something) and the rest of the sentence translates into: but I'm not missing a room. The way in how "en falta" is used seems irregular but is grammatically correct.

caer en falta - to fail (to do an obligation)

cuarto - palabra antigua que significa "riqueza" o "dinero"

Tomando esto de punto de partida - I am falling down on my duty, but I don't need money.

¿Quién sabe? Es una conjetura por mi parte...
