Article and noun gender need to agree in gender (masculine or feminine) and number (singular or plural).
In this case the noun, "amigas" is feminine and plural, so the article needs to be feminine and plural, too. That's "las."

It looks to me like in this case you may be referring to the photo of the 3 friends. A photograph is feminine as well.
La or Las is to be used when referring to a female or a feminine noun.
El and los are typically only used when there is a group of mixed genders, a male, or referring to a male noun. Usually if the word has an "o" for ending it is masculine. If is has an "a", it is probably feminine. (There are times when this rule isn't true and may not apply.)
