Please explain this to me? Why is it that:
?Por que esta viajando a Italia?
Whereas
?Por que esta viajando a la India?

Also, when is it appropriate to use "al" in similar sentences?

"al" = a el (masculino) "a la" would be 'a la'
Al parque - to the park A la playa - to the beach
