Is the sentence below correct? I thought it should be los trajes. - George

La norma es que lleven un traje los jefes. - The norm is for the bosses to wear suits

I'd rather say that removing un from dugu's trasnlation, I mean, La norma para los jefes es llevar traje.

This reminds me of something a very good Spanish friend once asked me to translate.

Traje un traje.

"La norma para los jefes es llevar un traje."

Not wrong, but typically foreign. When you are not concerned about the number of items, but what their use imply, in Spanish you generally omit the article. In your sentence, you are saying that the boss like to wear ONE particular suit (and not any other one), or just ONE suit (but not two or more), focusing on the importance of wearing ONE, which is secondary here.

Other examples: Tengo teléfono. Tengo coche. You are not talking about the precise number of phones or cars -actually, you could have any number of them, but about the implications of having those items as opposed to not having them.
