I want to use "carefree" as a positive personality trait. The translation that comes up is "despreocupado". Is this word used the same way in Spanish as in English? I'm trying to translate the below sentence. Please let me know if there is a better translation.

When you meet a Peruvian, you’re instantly taken to a blissful, positive state-of-mind as their warmth, friendliness and carefree spirits radiate through your body.

Cuando le conozca a un peruano, instantáneamente se pone feliz in sumo grande porque muy amables, cariñosos y despreocupados.

Since you´re describing how a person usually is, I would just say "Alegre." "Despreocupado" or "sin preocupaciones" is more for how a person is at a certain time.

Thank you. Is this the same as desenfadado? Is the rest of the sentence correct? - penney, Sep 2, 2010
Not exactly. Desenfadado is closer to "Not angry" or "Not bothered." "...porque ellos son muy amables.... " (I would use "ellos" here because you are switching from singular person to plural in the same sentence while still talking about peruanos - 005faa61, Sep 2, 2010

also desenvuelto, que actúa con desenvoltura.
