Where i work i have heard this from a guy i know from puerto rico mainly to other puerto ricans, but i have heard him say this to other hispanics who take a second and then respond back. I i'm only guessing that this is a slang version for see you later or take care till later or see you later or something to that effect.

It should be cuídate. It is not slang whatsoever. It is commonly used to wish somebody well when saying goodbye. It means "take care" (familiar form).

To tag onto La Poetisa's response...basically this means "take care".

"Cuídate" comes from the verb "cuidar" (to care for).

When you say "¡Cuídate!" you're saying "Take care!"
