"Stop the bleeding"'

"Stop the bleeding"'

The translator here translated the noun, gerund form of bleeding as "sangramiento."' I looked this up in 3 dictionaries and no one has that word. They offer "'sangria"'. mmm makes me feel as though i am in Espana enjoying a cool glass of - well forget it.

My husband says he never heard "sangria"' used that way. (That does not mean it is wrong of course. Could be another country's dialect.

He says he would say "sangrado"'.

What is the gerund/noun form of "bleeding?"

(I don't even think that el sangramiento exist)

You are probably correct, however, el desangramiento exists and it means "blood loss or bleeding".

I agree with LateToDinner, el sangrado seems the best option (I don't even think that el sangramiento exist). However, I don't think that sangría would be completely wrong. After Spanish dictionaries where I've lookes it up, it can be used refering to blood going out, but after my experience, when it's used in the related to blood, it refers to a killing (hacer una sangría = to shed blood)

I hope my opinion will help oh oh

Sangria - a rather pleasant drink. (stressed on the penultimate syllable)

Sangría - bleeding. (a rather unpleasant drink, stressed on the í)

As a matter of interest, some other meanings of "sangría"

Outflow, drain

Inner angle of the elbow

Irrigation channel

Stream of molten metal

etc,etc.

I would say that both, the drink and "bleeding", are written with the accent on the i and they are both pronounced the same way - LoaEtayo, Aug 31, 2010
I am sorry but you are incorrect. - Eddy, Aug 31, 2010
I'm not incorrect, I'm sure "sangria" doesn't exist, it is always written "sangría" - LoaEtayo, Aug 31, 2010

Thanks to all and to shelbymarch1 - yes I entered it and it gave me the machine translation fo "detener el sangrado"' but the benefit of asking others is that often times the machine is not accurate or fails to account for dialectical differences. For example, I looked it up in 3 dictionaries and got 'sangria"' which turned out to not be accurate. so it is better in cases like these to ask others and get different expert opinions and background.

Thanks

It depends on the use of it:

wound; sangrante, sangriento, que sangra

heart; dolorido

por ejemplo; bleeding heart liberal; liberal de grán corazón

bloody bast.... condenado

bleeding awkward; condenadamente dificil

medical; sangria es correcto significa, bloodletting....sangria suelta is: excessive flow of blood...continuous loss

pero desangramiento o hemorragia suena mejor si es termino medico

Sangria takes it's name from Blood, because the original sangria is made with dark red wine...remember in the old times (as sangria is old) they just to do the bloodletting with leaches to cure many diseases....called in Spanish...sangria o desangre.....

Si tomas mucha sangria en un bar de España (a causa del Euro)...te desangras el bolsillo wink

In your case (and it is hard to say because I cannot see the entire contex...) I will say.... Para o hay que parar antes de que me desangre o nos desangremos :0
