Podría ser un montaje
They are looking at a picture, and wondering if it is real or if it's fake. ¿Podría ser un montaje? Now doesn't montaje mean both "photomontage" and "set-up" like "it's a setup". Could this mean either "It could (just) be a photomontage" OR "It could be a setup"? Gracias.

It could be either, depending on the context, but in terms of probability I'd say "photomontage". Of course it could be a set-up if they gave you the picture (which may or may not be real) to make you look guilty. If there is not incrimination, it is clearly the "Photoshop" meaning.
Mec: assembly

Advertising stunt > publicity stunt; montaje publicitario
