"Not so!" / "This is not the case"

Question

How do you say, "Not so!" in Spanish? The translator says, "no tan", but that's literal, and I'm not sure if it works for the colloquial "Not so!", which is about the same as "this is not the case". Does anyone know?

Also, for "that is the case", the dictionary says: "así es" and "esa es la cuestión". How would you negate those? "Así no es" and "esa no es la cuestión"? (I think the second one is correct, but I'm not sure about "así no es". Maybe "no es así"?)

No es así = It's not like that. Eso no es = That's not it. These work. That is the case = Eso es el caso OR Así es el caso. Así es = It's like this/that. Esa es la cuestión = that is the question. Negate with a no in front.

• No es el caso
• Eso no es el caso
• El caso no es así
• No tiene nada que ver con eso. (it has nothing to do with that)
• Eso no viene a cuento (that has nothing to do with it)

For "This is not the case" I would use "Esto no es así"

For "Not so!" I would go with "No es."

"esa es la cuestión" is a good translation, but so is the other "así es" or "es así."

To negate: "No es así" and "No es la cuestión". Your translations are also correct.

"esa no es la cuestión" would translate more like "That is not the topic" or "that is not the subject." I don't think I would use it for "that is not the case."

"Not so" in this context would be "No así"

You can use "no es así" for this is not the case, yes. Another option is: "no es el caso".
